5 Day Trips from Yuma, Arizona

I sure enjoy planning an adventure, whether it be a day trip or extended vacation I am all for planning all of the details. Every now and then many of us get the urge to get out of town. Often times a day trip works well to fill your cup of adventure. Take a look at these five day trip destinations that are an easy drive from the desert southwest.

Day Trip Destinations

  • Algodones, Mexico - Grab your passport and head to Mexico. Park you vehicle in the parking lot on the U.S. side and walk across the border. Parking costs $6. Enjoy lunch, a little shopping and a causal environment. The taco stands have delicious tacos and I always enjoy a fresh churro from the churro cart. Wait times to cross the border vary. Wait times increase dramatically during the winter. The border is open from 6 am - 10 pm daily.

  • Joshua Tree National Park - You know I love our park system and we are really close to Joshua Tree! You can spend the day exploring the park and be home in time for dinner. Expect to drive 2 hours 45 min each way. The time will go by quickly as you sing aloud to your favorite road trip songs.

  • Julian, California - This sweet mountain town is located about 2 1/2 hours away from Yuma, which makes for a great day trip. Julian is well known for delicious pies, apple orchards and cooler temperatures.

  • Kofa Wildlife Refuge - Pack your lunch and head out to explore! You can go for a hike and visit the Castle Dome Mining Museum. Travel time is approximately 1 hour from Yuma.

  • San Diego - When you are craving an ocean breeze, head west to San Diego. Dip your toes in the ocean, explore museums in Balboa Park and grab a good bite to eat. Check out a few of my favorite places to eat during your next visit.

Day trips are easy, fun and are a great way to explore a bit more. Pack some road trip snacks and hit the road. You’ll be so happy you got away for the day.
