Fall Getaways in the West

Fall is such a great time to travel. Well, I feel like it’s just about always a good time to travel. Do you agree?!? A few of my favorite reasons to travel during the fall are, not as many people are out and about at several popular travel destinations, prices are often lower to travel and many kids have a fall break. When you put those reasons together, you can definitely justify a getaway.

Fall Travel Destinations

  • Hop in the car and visit a destination that you’ve had on your bucket list. Is it White Sands National Park in New Mexico? Or Garden of the Gods in Colorado? Make the most out of a long weekend and explore! You’ll be amazed at what you can see in just one weekend.

  • See the change of seasons in Arizona. Head north and you’ll be able to see the gorgeous fall colors from now through the end of October. Visit Arizona has a great guide on where to go to get in those views.

  • San Diego - Now is the time to rent that beach house you were eyeing all summer. The rates are significantly cheaper this time of year. Enjoy the San Diego Zoo, delicious food and the sand between your toes. For those of you from the desert, don’t forget to pack a sweatshirt for those cooler mornings and evenings.

  • For those of you that have kids at home, fall is also a great time to visit colleges. If you ask me, it’s never too early to start those college visits! When we visit a new college town, we check out the campus.

  • Get out your camping gear and start scoping out your campsite. If you need recommendations, check out a KOA for camping with full amenities or click here for more rugged options with incredible views.

  • Are you staying close to home? There’s nothing wrong with that. Plan to visit an outdoor garden, go hiking or enjoy a picnic outdoors. You’ll appreciate your time outdoors more than you know!

Whether you are headed out this fall or staying close to home, make the most of it! While I love our desert weather in the fall, it sure is a treat to travel north to get a glimpse of the changing of the seasons. Where is your favorite fall getaway?
