Homemade Pasta

June has been a month that I challenged myself to learn a new skill. You might remember from a previous post, that I mentioned I would spend time throughout the month learning how to make pasta. June has come and gone and it’s time to share how it all went. I truly love pasta, so this wasn’t something that was hard for me to try.

A Few Takeaways

Learning something new is always a good thing. It’s good for your brain, but also it’s a great excuse to get out of your comfort zone. While there were a few times, I wanted to put off making the pasta, I knew I needed to hold myself accountable and see what I could create.

Making pasta also gained the interest of my family. At one time or another, they all were apart of the pasta making process. Whether it was by mixing the dough, sprinkling the flour or tasting the finished product, we all played a part in the process. I loved hearing their feedback on how certain attempts were better than others and were followed by an explanation. I would say that everyone liked the hands-on part of creating the noodles the most.

Best Recipe

The recipe I found that I had with most success with, was from Betty Crocker’s Cookbook : Everything You Need to Know to Cook Today. The recipe called for few ingredients, the directions were simple and I was thrilled with the outcome! The dough came together nicely. It was quite a difference from the doughs I had made previously. I did use my Kitchen Aid mixer to make the dough. I had mixed the ingredients together myself with other recipes. I didn’t use my pasta maker with this recipe and really don’t think you need one.

Will I make homemade pasta again?

I am sure that I will make pasta again, but I don’t have it on my calendar. I can see myself making noodles again on a weekend, when I have a little extra time. It would be fun to challenge myself to making rigatoni or penne noodles. From some of the recipes I found, it doesn’t look too difficult. I’ll let you know when I give it a try.

If you haven’t challenged yourself to learn something new, I highly recommend it! Whether it is a success or failure, I think you’ll get a lot out of the process.
