Soup Season in the Desert

The weather forecast calls for cool weather for the next 10+ days, so it’s as good of time as any to make your favorite soup.

One reason why I enjoy making soup is because I know I’ll have leftovers and that is always a bonus! Soups can be simple and often times are a good way to throw together ingredients that you already have in your pantry and refrigerator and before you know it, you’ll have a meal.

A Few of My Favorite Things

The Life in the Desert Vegetable Orzo Soup is tasty and quick to make!

I do have fun cooking in the kitchen and have a few favorite items that I think you’ll like, too.

  • Dutch Oven - I enjoy cooking soups in a dutch oven. We had received this dutch oven as a wedding gift and I have gotten a ton of use out of it. The blue is still my favorite color.

  • Soup just seems better when it is served in a good bowl. Check out these stoneware soup bowls from Target. The handles are a plus!

  • I do love leftovers and a good soup container makes lunch a little more enjoyable, especially when you are on the go. This insulated jar is great for keeping your soup warm and it is available in bright colors!

The Recipe

Over the weekend, the skies were cloudy and a homemade soup was calling my name. I checked to see which ingredients I had available and created a vegetable orzo soup. It’s full of flavor and can be made in about 30 minutes. Download the recipe here. I hope you try out the recipe and I would love to know what you think of it. Pair it with a slice of warm sourdough bread and you’ve got yourself a delicious and warm meal.

I must say a few other favorite soups of mine are tomato basil, chili and a homemade chicken noodle. What is a soup that you enjoy making?
