Episode #26 It's Time to Get Away

Travel is on everyone’s mind, so it’s time to share travel tips with you. This mini episode highlights ways to help you make the most of your adventures.

Here a few tips to help you get working on planning your next vacation.

  • Jot down in a notebook or on your phone, a bucket list of travel destinations. Keep this list handy and keep adding to it.

  • Create a travel budget. If travel is a part of your life, it should be a part of your budget. What % of your earnings do you want to spend on vacations, whether big or small.

    • Within your travel budget think about destinations you plan to go within the year or year+) and your plan to make it happen

    • Consider what type of travel experiences you generally enjoy. Will you be taking more road trips and camping or traveling by air and staying at upscale hotels? There’s a wide range and you can make it work. A lot of people like to splurge on certain getaways and save on smaller vacations.

    • Gear - Overtime, invest in quality travel gear. Is it good hiking shoes, a sturdy suitcase, a tent that is easy to put up. (Yes, a new tent is on my list.)

  • Find a travel companion. Who do you travel well with? Is it your spouse? Family? Friends? What are the destinations that you have in common that you’d like to travel to?

  • Do your research - Once you have an idea of where you’d like to explore, start learning about the area. You can create a board on Pinterest to save your ideas. Subscribe to a travel magazine such as, Travel & Leisure Magazine, the National Park websites, and the destination city’s website with travel information are always helpful places. Podcasts and blogs are also useful in making the trip you want, how you want it.

  • Make a plan, but be willing to be flexible. Sometimes, I have a hard time with this. I am a planner, with itineraries for vacations or at least an idea of what I want to see and do each day.If there are a few “must-see” places on your destination, make it happen.

  • Visit a new place once a year. While this may seem like a lot, it doesn’t have to be. So let’s say you visit Tucson and have several times before, but you have never made it to Saguaro National Park or Mt. Lemmon. Make a stop and explore a new location to change up your regular routine while visiting a familiar place.

  • Keep in mind that everyone is ready to travel too, so if you need a rental car, please make sure they are available prior to booking your stay. It’s great though if you don’t need a rental car.

  • Book sooner than later, to get the vacation you want. Many hotels and airlines are still flexible with their reservations. Consider getting travel insurance depending on the expense of the trip.

  • Add the destination to your weather app on your phone. It’s fun to keep an eye on the weather for an upcoming trip. It gives me an idea of what I’ll need to pack.

  • Make the most of each of your adventures!
