Camping is Always an Adventure

Camping is such a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors. For many, you don’t have to travel too far from home to escape city life and make the most of a rugged getaway. Check out your state or national parks for camping locations. You might also have a favorite spot or two that is off the grid.

We can always count on an annual extended family camping trip, and those are definitely a highlight. It’s a fun time for people of all ages and lots of memories are made. As you make your travel plans for you next adventure, give camping a try. Check out my list of camping essentials that will help you be prepared.

Ok, we all have our favorite go-to travel essentials, but make sure you have all you need for your next camping getaway. Make a list to help you remember all that you need for a fun and memorable trip.

  • Duffel bags- For quick getaways, I recommend the Walker Family Goods bags, The bags have just enough space and are available in several colors. It’s fun to have each family member pick a bag I their favorite color.

  • Tent - Learn from me and get a tent that’s simple for you to put up. We had an old tent, that saw its last days during a camping trip last spring. Over the summer, I purchased a tent that can fit us all and is easy to assemble. Tip - Find a tent that fits your budget and won’t stress you out to assemble.

  • Lighting - When the sun goes down, make sure you have enough light. I can appreciate a good lamp. During our recent trip, I found these lights that also have the capability to charge phones. While I am happy to be without cell service, it’s nice to have a phone to capture a few photos.

  • Sleeping Mat/Cot - I am all about a good night’s sleep, so pack a mat or a cot. If you are camping in cold temps, sleeping off the ground will also keep you warmer. I have these mats. They are easy to air up and fold up to fit in a backpack if needed. If you want to be extra comfortable, invest in an air mattress.

  • Sleeping bag - Purchase a quality down sleeping bag that will keep you warm and cozy. A durable sleeping bag will last you many years.

  • Camping Chair - Chairs sure come in handy for meal times and for sitting around the campfire. Chairs are available at all price points. I suggest buying a chair that is simple to fold up and doesn’t require a lot of space when packed in your vehicle.

  • Cooking stove - We purchased our first camping stove about 2 years ago and I am so happy we made that purchase. It’s amazing what you can cook during a camping adventure when you have a propane tank and a stove. I would opt for a stove that has a flattop/griddle attachment. A stove with two burners will allow you to get your meal ready in a decent amount of time.

  • Storage Bin- Stay organized and pack food and cooking gear in a bin. This will help you limit what you take, believe me, I could just keep packing forever. I love the cover to the bin so that it keeps dirt out of food and cooking tools.

  • Ice Chest - Keep your drinks and food cool during your adventure with an ice chest.

  • Activities- I am all about a little rest and relaxation when it comes to camping, but pack a few items for a little entertainment. A deck of cards and Washooes are quite popular. If camping with kids, pack acrylic paints, a canvas and paint brushes for a little art activity.
