Outdoor Movie Nights

There are really so many fabulous reasons to live in the desert, one of which is the fall weather. Why our fall doesn’t quite relate to the typical seasonal weather, most people are experiencing, the cooler temperatures allow us to get outside a bit more and enjoy our surroundings.

Over the weekend, we celebrated our oldest daughter’s birthday with an outdoor movie night in our backyard. It was a simple and fun idea that came together well. I ordered everything that we needed from Amazon to make the movie night a reality. After hosting this party, I had to share the details with you, because it was fun and super simple.

Aaron took care of the tech side of things to make sure the movie and sound were good to go. I took care of the food and before you knew it, we were ready to enjoy an evening under the stars in the comfort of our very own backyard.

Movie Night Essentials

  1. You’ll need a white surface to show the movie. A sheet or screen will do the job. I found a screen for under $30. The screen does have grommets, so you can use rope or bungee cords to hang for viewing.

2. The next item needed is a projector. If a friend or family member has one, ask to borrow it for the evening. If you think that you’ll get a significant amount of use out of it, purchase a projector. There are projectors to fit every budget. You can find the projector we used here.

3. Select what you are going to watch! You can stream a movie or show through an iPad or other device that you normally use when streaming. Just hook it up to your projector. If you have an iPad, it’s possibly that you’ll need a converter. Most projectors come with a speaker. You can always hook up a larger speaker to the projector for a little more volume.

4. Who doesn’t love a snack or two while watching a movie?!? I went to our local movie theatre and purchased party size bags of popcorn. The popcorn containers that I ordered were just the right size. I also picked up a mix of candy for a concession stand at Target.

5. If you’re feeling like you want to add a decoration or two. I found a few simple decorations on Etsy and Amazon.

6. Blankets or chairs on the lawn are just what you need for a comfortable evening watching your show. With the temps cooling off in the evening, everyone will be happy if they have a light blanket or jacket to stay warm.

If you’re entertaining for the outdoor movie, there is minimal set up and clean up. Just think if there are any spills, it’s great that the party is outside. This is really a great way to entertain for those of all ages. Kids can run around when they need to get up and move.

I can’t wait for us to watch another movie in our yard. Head on over to Amazon, add these items to your cart, and get ready to enjoy your favorite movie outside!
